Changing the Lifestyle Paradigm

Living a sustainable life

One of the most obvious changes we need to make in living a more sustainable lifestyle is backing away slowly from the idea that growth is the way to develop an economy or that having more stuff means an enriched life.

As it stands today, we in the US suffer from a condition that was labeled "affluenza" about a decade ago. Marketing writers at the behest of corporate moguls wanting to corner more market share measure everything in terms of larger slices of pie, but no one seems to be paying attention to the fact that the pie itself isn't getting bigger. If anything, a few of us are gorging ourselves while thousands starve to death every single day ... they don't even get to collect the crumbs from the table.

Technology may be able to help us extract more from our resources and we may learn to use our planetary riches more wisely, but the planet's population is way over what is easily sustainable.

We'll discuss lifestyle here. Topics like having kids and how many, reducing your footprint and what that means, doing more with less, social responsibility, and what it means to be a good global citizen in today's world will be fodder for the mill.
